Problem

Radiator is cold at the bottom and in the middle because sediments of black iron oxide (sludge) restricts the flow of water and causes cold areas.

After isolating the radiator we use the Powerflush system and introduce a chemical cleansing and neutralising fluid, which is pumped around the radiator at extremely high pressure.  Gently tapping the radiator with a rubber mallet coupled with flow reversal, is sufficient to dislodge the various sediments together with any particles of copper swarf that may be present.  The waste is collected in a special dump tank and the process is continued until clear water is being discharged.

Problem

Radiator is cold at the top and hot at the bottom.  Hydrogen gas depresses the water level in the radiator and reduces the flow pattern.

Black iron oxide sludge, ferrous oxide sediment (magnetite) and particles of copper swarf all combine to restrict hot water flow within central heating systems and impair heating efficiency.  Another reason for radiators which are hot at the bottom and cold at the top is the presence of hydrogen gas caused by the corrosive effect of some modern fluxes used in modern day plumbing.

It is of some importance that the whole system is flushed and a suitable inhibitor introduced to minimise the further production of gas.
